Events Forthcoming Events The date for the fourth PCMT Golf Day is Friday 13th June 2008 to be held as usual at Clandon Regis Golf Club.
Past Golf Days Friday 8th June 2007: PCMT Golf Day at Clandon Regis Golf Club This was the fourth PCMT Golf Day and once again friends came from far and wide to support us. In fact we had the highest attendance in our history so far with 14 teams of 4 playing golf with 97 golfers and guests in total for dinner. David and I very much appreciate all the support our friends have given us and to realise that the event still seems to be growing is very comforting. After an early morning severe weather warning for storms in our area, and with very heavy skies, we were very anxious as to how the day would progress. We needn't have worried - someone is looking after us - as the clouds rolled away by lunchtime to reveal a hot sunny afternoon. Guests were able to enjoy a drink before dinner on the patio. This year there were no motorway worries. For those of us who 'Had a Go with the Pro' (12 of us), the club Professional, Steve Lloyd, provided us with a fun competition involving putting, pitching and driving, along with some very helpful tuition. This was thoroughly enjoyed by all of us taking part. This year's winners of 'Go with the Pro' were Lesley and Brian James. Golf could easily become the sport for them. (click here for photo 1559) Derek Wreay of the Wreay Partnership, sponsored the cup and prizes once again this year. It was particularly nice to have Derek with us to present the prizes. Last year, many of you may remember that the M25 was closed because of a terrible accident and Derek and his party spent 7 hours sitting on the motorway going nowhere. The raffle was held during dinner and once again there was a wonderful array of prizes to be won. Special thanks to all our donors. Please see attachment for details of prizes. Also to Bob for the invaluable connection with the Legal & General, which has continued to support us, not only with the gift of the Box at the Albert Hall but with a further donation of £750 to PCMT funds and various golfing items. Also, a thank-you to Adrian Houslop for our BMW goodies - which are most sought after. Thanks also to Sue Wingate, Barry & Ros Reeve, Paul Donovan and Mark Shepherd for their continued support for the raffle donations, which is very much appreciated by David and Yvonne. Paul and Jenny at the Clandon Regis Golf Club unreservedly need a big thank you, along with their supporting staff. We were all pleased with the new round tables for dinner this year. Friday 9th June 2006: PCMT Golf Day at Clandon Regis Golf Club Winning Team: Neville Dudeney, Lee Barry, Trevor Head and Jim Radford Runners-up: Jim Gallagher, Lou Hedderley, Pete Metz and Gareth Morgan Longest Drive [18th]: Adrian Houslop Nearest the Pin [11th]: Stephen Montgomery Ladies Putting [18th]: Joan Raffety For those who 'Had a Go with the Pro' (10 of us), the club Professional, Steve Lloyd, once again provided us with two hours of excellent tuition, concentrating on the importance of a correct grip and stance. Our numbers were slightly down on last year due to the fact that as a result of Steve's excellent teaching, some of last year's group were actually playing in the competition itself. Derek Wreay of the Wreay Partnership, sponsored the cup and prizes, which - because of Derek's unavoidable absence - were presented in the evening by David Culverhouse. The raffle was held during the dinner with some wonderful prizes, including a portable dvd player, theatre vouchers, Molton Brown vouchers, Antler suitcase, a limited-edition print donated by Sue Wingate, BMW golf accessories, and a cuddly teddy, etc. Special thanks to the generous donors of raffle prizes and also to those who bought the raffle tickets - generating an excellent £705. This year we held a sealed bid auction for the Legal & General's Royal Albert Hall Box for a Promenade concert "Happy Birthday Ma'am" to be held on 19th July. An excellent job guys made all the more difficult because of all the disruption caused by the M25 closure. And also special thanks to Roy Donovan who yet again superbly carried out the duties of Master of Ceremonies for the evening with his usual organisational skill and eloquence . And we must mention Clandon Regis Golf Club, who gave us a great day - the course was in great condition, the food excellent and the service could not be faulted. A big thank you to all their staff. Thursday 9th June 2005: PCMT Golf Day at Clandon Regis Golf Club Winners: Jonathan Miller, Peter Granger, Jeff Rubbert and Neil Sturgess. For those who 'Had a go with the Pro' (16 of us), Steve Lloydd once again provided us with two hours of excellent tuition with little competitions to keep us on our toes. Steve did a good job as we understand that two of our ladies, Moira and Lynn, have now taken up golf lessons! Lynn Houslop won the 'most promising newcomer', whilst Tony Gale took the Men's prize. Derek Wreay of the Wreay Partnership, both sponsored and presented the cup to the winning team and the other prizes. We should like to thank everyone for all their help and support, especially Bob and Ellie Green and Roy Donovan. We have raised £2783.00 for PCMT and we believe a few more donations to come to make it up to nearly £3000. In the summer edition of Spotlight the SDBTT announced that they had had a record year and that they are now the largest single funder of laboratory based brain tumour research in the UK. The Astro Fund, which is a branch of the SDBTT, specialises in funding research for Pete's type of low grade brain tumour and where PCMT funds are donated, is expanding fast. 9th June 2004: Golf Day The winning team of captain Bryan Duffy, with Andy Croskell, Richard Bragg and Jim Radford were presented with the team trophy & individual prizes. Teams-of-four runners-up, 'longest drive' and 'closest to the pin' also attracted prizes, as did 'the most lost balls'. All the prizes were very kindly donated by Derek Wreay of the Wreay Partnership. At the same time' 'Have a Go with the Pro' was a real challenge for Steve Lloyd, the golf professional at Clandon Regis, who spent two hours with the 15 men & lady 'would-be golfers'. An unqualified success, fun yet instructive, was the unanimous opinion expressed by those who participated. In the evening, 86 guests attended the excellent 4-course Dinner held in the Golf Club restaurant. Roy Donovan, our volunteer Master of Ceremonies for the evening, ran our raffle. With many superb prizes generously donated by various individuals and organisations, more than £550 was raised by this raffle. Bob Green, our auctioneer, delighted the audience, as he persuaded bidders to part with their cash. Legal & General had donated their box at the Royal Albert Hall for a Saturday night at the Proms. A long weekend in Paris, travelling by Eurostar, for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe horseracing at Longchamp in October was donated by Bowood Leisure, and an autographed authenticated photograph of David Beckham was donated by Bob Green's family. The raffle and auction, together with other donations including from those unable to attend the Day, successfully raised about £2500. As a result, our 2005 event has already been arranged for Thursday June 9th, again at Clandon Regis Golf Club. Paul Donovan, one of the founders of the Trust, was not only delighted with the funds raised, but was able to announce that the Trust's official website is now live. The PCMT was set up last October when Peter Culverhouse, from Bookham, died at age 31 years from a brain tumour, which he had bravely fought for seven years. During his last year he suffered frequent seizures and gradually became totally paralysed. Princess Alice Hospice at Esher cared for him wonderfully during his last 5 weeks. Four of his schoolfriends set up PCMT to support Princess Alice and brain tumour research in memory of Peter. Other Past Events
Thames River Cruise, September 2006 The day itself was one of the last sunny days of the summer, and perfect conditions for a trip along the river. All 50 places had been snapped up (technically there were 51 guests, but at 5 months Emily Wareham was not an active consumer of the champagne). It was about half way through the boarding process that the message came through that David and Yvonne Culverhouse, four other guests, all the raffle prizes and advertising material were somewhere on the A3 in a traffic jam. Tower Bridge had already indicated that they were not prepared to wait an additional half hour or so, and that the bridge was going to be raised precisely on time - which meant we had to cast off on time. Fortunately, David's intimate knowledge of the by ways of south London got the taxi through in time, and there was no need of implementing the contingency plans (which had focused, vaguely, on using a ship to shore cable and pulley system to get everyone on board after Tower Bridge).
The Bridge opened on time, the "Will" sailed through on time, and the journey east continued in full swing. We should say a huge thank you to the staff of Topsail, who coordinated the event for us and provided fantastic catering for the day. The raffle was a great success - though there was considerable bargaining over the Scottish hamper, subsequently.

Overall the day raised over £2,500 through the generous contributions of all who attended, and the aggressive selling of raffle tickets by Mark. The PCMT owes a great deal of thanks to Caroline Warner of Moet for their generous sponsorship, to "3" for a raffle prize, and to Topsail for their fantastic organisation (and considerable patience with the PCMT organisers). The Topsail staff also very generously made a donation to the PCMT after the event. Finally, of course, thanks to everyone who came along, for their continued support of the PCMT.
New Years Eve 2004 A donation of £750 has been made by Logica directly to the Princess Alice Hospice, through their give-as-you-earn scheme in Peter's memory.
